What to Pack for a Baby Beach Day: The Complete Checklist
A beach day with a baby is one of summer's greatest joys — and one of its greatest logistical challenges. Between the nappy bag, the sun cream, and the snacks, it's easy to forget something important. We've put together the ultimate packing checklist so you can focus on the fun and leave the stress at home.
👒 Sun Protection Essentials
Babies under 6 months should be kept out of direct sunlight entirely, and older babies need careful protection. Here's what to pack:
- Wide-brimmed sun hat — Our Straw Sun Hat is a beach bag must-have. The natural straw weave allows airflow while the generous brim shields little faces and necks from UV rays.
- SPF 50+ baby sunscreen — Choose a mineral-based formula designed for sensitive skin.
- UV-protective swimwear or a rash vest — Covers more skin than a standard swimsuit.
- Lightweight muslin wrap — Doubles as a shade cover for the pram or a quick swaddle if baby gets cold.
👗 What to Dress Baby In
The beach calls for outfits that are easy to get on and off (sand happens), breathable, and quick to dry. A few of our favourites:
- A Linen Ruffle Romper over a swim nappy for easy beach-to-café transitions — linen dries quickly and looks effortlessly put-together.
- A loose cotton bodysuit as a base layer under a rash vest.
- Soft-soled shoes or booties for walking on hot sand or pebbles.
Pack at least one full change of clothes — ideally two. Sand and sea water have a way of finding every outfit.
🧴 Nappy & Feeding Bag Essentials
- Plenty of nappies (more than you think you'll need)
- Nappy sacks and a portable changing mat
- Baby wipes — useful for sand, sunscreen, and everything in between
- Pre-made formula or a nursing cover if breastfeeding
- Snacks and a sippy cup for older babies
- Extra bibs
🏖️ Comfort & Play
- Portable beach shade or pop-up tent — Essential for nap time and keeping baby out of direct sun.
- Waterproof blanket or mat — Keeps baby off the hot sand and gives them a clean space to play.
- A few small beach toys — Buckets, spades, and soft balls are perfect for little hands.
- Portable fan — Battery-powered fans clip onto prams and make a huge difference on hot days.
🚗 Getting There & Back
- A pram or carrier with good sun coverage
- A cool bag with ice packs for milk, food, and drinks
- A spare bag for wet or sandy clothes on the way home
